Bird on Perch
Bird on Perch is a calm pomodoro and study timer made by the Hookstep team. You set a session, a hand-drawn bird settles on its perch and stays while you work, and finished sessions slowly add birds to your flock. It runs in a browser, installs to a phone's home screen and works offline.
What it does
- Session lengths of 15, 25, 45 or 60 minutes, or any length from 1 to 180 minutes.
- Twelve bird species to collect, from a common sparrow to a rare toucan, each with its own silhouette.
- Daily focus time, streaks and session history, kept on your device and never on a server. There is no account.
- No streak-shaming: the timer is quiet and the reward is small.
- Installs to the home screen and keeps working with no connection.
Free, and how it pays for itself
The browser version is the whole app: all twelve birds and any session length, with no payment. It shows a small Google ad on the Stats, Flock and Settings screens and never on the timer. The product's privacy policy explains how ads and cookies work.
A session, start to finish
Open the app, choose a length, and start. The bird settles onto its perch and stays there while the timer runs, so there is nothing to tap or watch until it ends. When the session finishes you get a small reward, and over time the flock fills in. The Stats screen shows daily focus time, your streak and the number of sessions, and the Settings screen holds your preferences. All of this is stored in your browser, which means clearing the browser's site data clears the history too.
Our guide to starting pomodoro focus sessions covers how to choose a length, what to do in breaks and how to handle interruptions, whichever timer you use.
Who it is for
Students, and people who work in focused blocks and want a timer that stays out of the way. It is a timer, not a medical or treatment tool.
