How Uplers describes itself
Uplers calls itself an AI-native hiring partner for startups and scaling tech teams, with AI-led sourcing and human-led evaluation, and says the first shortlist arrives within 48 hours (uplers.com, checked 16 October 2026).
It publishes three hiring models with prices. Pay Per Profile: a flat ₹20,000 to ₹50,000 per role for about 20 matched profiles. Pay Per Hire: a success fee of 10% to 15% of annual CTC, paid on joining, with 90-day replacement cover. Pay Per Contract: the engineer is on Uplers' payroll, from $2,500 a month, with a 6-month minimum and lifetime replacement cover (uplers.com/pricing, checked 16 October 2026).
How HookStep is different
- No published price list: rates and fees are quoted per role, against your brief and budget.
- Contract, contract-to-hire and permanent placement in India from one partner, remote or on-site in an Indian city.
- A job board and hiring workspace as well: you can publish roles yourself and manage applicants in one dashboard.
- Outside our strongest skills we say that we are sourcing for the role, rather than claiming someone is waiting on a bench.

- Uplers is likely the better fit if you want published prices and replacement terms before you talk to anyone, or want contract engineers on the provider's payroll for six months or more.
- HookStep is likely the better fit if you want a quote for one specific role, want to move from contract to a permanent hire with the same partner, need someone on-site in an Indian city, or also want a job board for roles you fill yourself.

Is HookStep cheaper than Uplers?
We do not publish rates, because they are quoted per role. Uplers publishes its fees, so share your role and budget with us and compare the two numbers for the same role.
Do I interview the engineers myself?
Yes. You get profiles for your specific requirement, you run your own interviews, and nobody starts until you approve them.
Can the engineer work in my time zone?
Most of our engineers are in India (IST, UTC+5:30). For US or European teams we agree the required overlap hours in the brief and only put forward people who can commit to them.
